Buying a domain name

You already have your website with BizPorch. A domain name just gives people a memorable address (like yourbusiness.com) that points to it. You are buying only the name. Nothing else. Here is where to buy, what to skip, and how to pick a good one.

Where to buy

Buy from a reputable registrar. Any of these is a solid choice. Prices are for a standard .com and are approximate. Always check the renewal price on the day you buy, since that is what you pay every year after.

Registrar~1st year~RenewalFree privacy?Best for
Porkbun~$11~$11 (same)Yes, automatic Best all-rounder for non-technical owners: flat honest pricing, friendly, no lock-in.
Cloudflare~$10.50~$10.50 (same)Yes Cheapest, sold at cost with zero markup. More technical, and it makes you use Cloudflare’s DNS.
Namecheap~$9-11~$14-18Yes, free for life Well-known and beginner-friendly with 24/7 chat. Renewal costs more than year one.
GoDaddyoften $1-7~$23Basic free Easiest if you want to phone a human, but heavy upsells and the priciest renewals.
Our honest pick for most BizPorch owners: Porkbun. The price you pay year one is the price every year, privacy is free and automatic, and it’s simple. Want the absolute lowest price and comfortable with a techier dashboard? Cloudflare is excellent. Namecheap is a fine friendly choice too. Just check the renewal price. GoDaddy works, but it’s the easiest place to overspend.

What to watch out for

How to choose a good name

Roughly what it costs

For a .com with free privacy at an honest registrar, expect about $10-15 per year, all in. There is no separate hosting or SSL bill. Those come with BizPorch. The domain is your only ongoing cost.

After you buy: one quick step

Once you own the domain, you don’t buy anything else. Add two DNS records in your registrar’s control panel:

Record 1: your root domain
Record type:  A
Name / Host:  @
Value / Points to:  138.197.57.119
Record 2: www
Record type:  CNAME
Name / Host:  www
Value / Points to:  your domain

Those point your new domain at your BizPorch site (the second one makes www work too). Then enter the domain in your BizPorch dashboard under Custom Domain and we’ll handle the rest. See the step-by-step for your provider for exactly where these go.
